Iran Football Federation president Mehdi Taj announced that Belgian manager Marc Wilmots had terminated his contract with Iran before defeat against Iraq.
Wilmots took charge of Iran national team in May but after two defeats against Bahrain and Iraq, his departure looked inevitable.
Taj, however, revealed that the Belgian had terminated his contract before the match against Iraq due to financial reasons and now Iran Football Federation is looking for a new manager.
“Wilmots terminated his contract with us before Iraq match. However he wanted a new contract after this match to guarantee the payment.” He said to Varzeh-va-Mardom TV show.
“Mr Wilmots didn’t know Arab countries and also our players. We had to do this change, otherwise it could have put us in difficult situation.
We are discussing different options but at the moment, it’s not certain who will be our next manager.”
