FIFA new plan to end Iranian women stadium ban

FIFA wants to send a delegate to Iran for Team Melli match against Cambodia to ensure women presence at the stadium.

Iran is the only member of FIFA that women can’t watch men’s football at stadiums but football governing body is decided to end this situation.

Recently an Iranian girl, Sahar Khodayari, set herself on fire after her arrest for trying to enter the stadium and this mounted pressure on Iran football federation to open the stadiums’ doors for women.

Tehran authorities assured FIFA that they will allow women to enter stadiums in Iran national team matches and the 2022 World cup qualifier against Cambodia will be the first one.

But FIFA concerns that the Women who will be at Azadi stadium on October 10, be selected and limited number.
So the delegate including FIFA Foundation CEO Youri Djorkaeff, who won the World Cup with France will be in Tehran for the match to observe the process.

“Iran is a hot topic, and I am organizing myself to be there on October 10,” the former midfielder said to AFP.

“The presence of a delegation in Tehran is important “to show that FIFA intervened there with conviction,” he added.
