Tan Cheng Hoe Awaits Contract Decision After AFF Cup

After greatly out-performing expectations at the 2018 AFF Cup, Malaysia coach Tan Cheng Hoe awaits a decision about his future.

According to this report from Malaysian news outlet The Star, coach Tan will be informed by the Malaysian FA about the details of his contract at the end of the month. His current deal is set to expire on the 31st of December, at which time the FA will decide the fates of all of their coaching staff.

The former international has impressively managed to implement a philosophy of expansive, possession based football with the Malaysian national team, which has been embraced by the players. As such, many in the nation expect Tan’s contract to be renewed and welcome his presence as the head of the senior side.

This new deal will allow Tan Cheng Hoe to plan for the future, starting with the qualifying campaign for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Having already built an exciting young squad, penning a new deal will allow the coach to take charge during a pivotal time for the national team.
