Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has emerged as a frontrunner for the vacant head coach role at Kanchanaburi Power, after the club’s chairman hinted at talks via a Facebook post.
The post showed Kanchanaburi chairman Prawat Kitthamkunkunnij and several staff members on a Zoom call with Fowler, whose most recent managerial stint came with Saudi outfit Al-Qadsiah in 2023.
If appointed, this would mark Fowler’s second venture into Thai football, having previously served as player-head coach at Muangthong United from 2011 to 2012. His coaching résumé also includes spells with Brisbane Roar in Australia (2019–2020) and Indian side East Bengal (2020–2021).
Despite heavy investment in marquee players and ambitions to challenge Thai League 1’s elite, Kanchanaburi endured a disastrous start to the season, going winless in their opening five matches and slipping to the lower half of the table. Technical director Dusit Chalermsan and assistant coach Phaison Pona resigned on September 27, forcing head coach Alongkorn Thong-am — previously a nominal figurehead implementing Dusit and Phaison’s tactics — to take full control. His first match in sole charge ended in a statement 4-0 win over Lamphun Warriors.
However, with Alongkorn lacking the star power and profile needed to take the club to the next level, Kanchanaburi are seeking a marquee appointment. Besides Fowler, Singapore icon Fandi Ahmad and former Incheon United manager Yoon Jong-hwan have also been linked with the vacancy.
