Liga Super Trio May Receive Lifeline

Three Liga Super Malaysia clubs teetering on the edge of financial collapse may yet receive a much-needed lifeline that could keep them in the league for the 2025/26 season.

Perak FC became the first to publicly withdraw from the upcoming season, announcing their exit in late April following the conclusion of the 2024/25 campaign. Club owners XOX Berhad cited an inability to secure further funding as the reason behind their decision to cease operations, leaving the Bos Gaurus‘ future in limbo.

Shortly thereafter, Sri Pahang FC plunged into similar uncertainty. Club president Tengku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ahmad Shah stepped down following the Tok Gajah‘s 2-1 defeat in the 2024/25 Malaysia Cup final, and the club has since remained silent on its intentions for next season.

While no official statement has been made, Kelantan Darul Naim FC is also in a precarious position. The Golden Deers have faced ongoing financial troubles, culminating in a FIFA-imposed transfer ban, raising serious doubts over their ability to continue in the Liga Super.

However, hope may not be lost. According to mysemuanyabola, a local Instagram page focused on Malaysian football, all three clubs could be rescued by commercial entities expressing interest in acquiring ownership. These takeovers would potentially provide fresh investment, stabilizing the clubs and enabling them to compete in the upcoming season.

Perak chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabid confirmed that talks had taken place with a third party representing prospective investors interested in taking over the club. This aligns with mysemuanyabola’s earlier claims and signals that concrete steps may already be underway.

If successful, these takeovers would not only save the clubs from extinction but also preserve the competitive integrity of the Liga Super, which has already faced challenges with club sustainability in recent seasons. The next few weeks will be critical in determining whether these historic clubs can secure a future on and off the pitch.
