Brazilian Goalkeeper Frigeri Signs Arema Contract Extension

The 2025/26 Liga 1 Indonesia season may still be some time away, but Arema FC has wasted no time in laying the groundwork for the new campaign, securing a contract extension for goalkeeper Lucas Frigeri.

After enduring a turbulent period following the Kanjuruhan Tragedy, Arema has been on an upward trajectory. Under Ze Gomes’ leadership, the team has hovered between mid-table and the top half of the 2024/25 Liga 1 standings.

With key players like William Marcilio and Achmad Maulana attracting interest from rival clubs, Arema moved swiftly to lock in Brazilian shot-stopper Frigeri for another season.

The former Madura United goalkeeper earned a one-year extension as a reward for his consistent performances between the posts.

“I have extended my contract with Arema for one more season,” Frigeri told Bola.com.

Given his contributions this season, it’s no surprise that Arema prioritized his renewal. Frigeri has been a vital presence in goal, featuring in 26 matches and missing just one due to injury.

Statistically, his numbers may not stand out—he has conceded 37 goals and kept five clean sheets, while also not ranking among Liga 1’s top five goalkeepers in saves.

However, beyond the stats, Frigeri has been a calming influence at the back, often stepping up with crucial saves in key moments.

Arema’s defensive struggles this season weren’t solely on him. Frequent rotations in the backline due to injuries have left the team vulnerable, making it easier for opponents to break through.

Despite interest from other clubs, Frigeri had no hesitation in accepting the new contract. Having settled comfortably in Malang, with his wife and child also feeling at home, he saw no reason to leave.

“My family and I love Arema and Malang. We are very happy here, and now I want to give back to Aremania for their support,” said Frigeri.

Frigeri first arrived in Liga 1 last season with Madura United, where he helped the team finish as league runners-up.

This season marked his second year in Indonesia, during which he claimed his first piece of silverware with Arema, winning the prestigious preseason tournament, the President’s Cup.

Now, with his contract extension in place, Frigeri is set to embark on his third season in Indonesia, aiming to continue his impact between the posts for Arema FC.
