Defending Malaysia FA Cup champions Johor Darul Ta’zim secured their fourth consecutive title with a dominant 6-1 victory over Selangor FC in the 2024/25 final at Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Saturday night.
The emphatic win was highlighted by a hat trick from JDT midfielder Juan Muniz in what was an intense clash between the top two Liga Super Malaysia teams.
JDT’s early lead was expected, with Muniz opening the scoring in the 26th minute. The Southern Tigers extended their advantage to 2-0 just before halftime, courtesy of Malaysia national team winger Arif Aiman, who found the net in the 42nd minute.
Selangor managed to briefly claw back into the game in the second half with foreign striker Alvin Fortes scoring in the 59th minute. However, their hopes were quickly dashed as JDT responded with two quick goals in five minutes—Brazilian striker Bergson netted in the 62nd minute, followed by Muniz’s second goal in the 67th minute.
Despite their comfortable lead, JDT continued to press, with Herberty adding a fifth goal in the 76th minute. Muniz then capped off the match with his third goal, completing his hat trick before the final whistle.
This victory adds another trophy to JDT’s season, having already secured the Charity Shield in May after Selangor forfeited the match following the acid attack on star man Faisal Halim only days prior. The Southern Tigers are also leading the Liga Super title, with a four-point gap over 2nd placed Selangor.
