Indonesia’s very own Asnawi Mangkualam put out an impressive performance for Port FC as they romped their way to a 5-1 win over Singha Chiangrai United in Monday’s 2024/25 Thai League 1 action at the PAT Stadium, getting into the thick of the action as he bagged himself an assist for the Lions of Khlong Toei’s fifth goal.
Alongside Singapore’s very own Irfan Fandi, Asnawi was tasked by Port head coach Rangsan Viwatchaichok to marshal his four-man defense for the match, with Kevin Deeromram and Iraqi international Frans Putros completing the quartet.
After enduring some early pressure from Chiangrai, Port took the lead in the 23rd minute through captain Bordin Phala, who headed home a Putros cross.
Former PT Prachuap and Buriram United danger man Lonsana Doumbouya then made it 2-0 for the hosts in the 32nd minute, taking advantage of an excellent ball from Phala.
Doumbouya scored his second just a minute after the restart, this time latching onto a Deeromram ball to force Chiangrai goalkeeper Apirak Worawong into picking up the ball from the back of his net for the third time.
Worawong’s night got even more miserable as Port went 4 goals to the good in the 56th minute, as Deeromram once again worked his magic to give Noboru Shimura the opportunity to further extend his team’s lead.
Port then cemented their lead even further by going 5-0 up in the 69th minute. The goal’s buildup saw Asnawi penetrating the Chiangrai defense from the right flank, angling in a pass that was rifled into Worawong’s goal by substitute Peeradol Chamratsamee.
Willen Mota thought that he had scored Port’s sixth goal of the evening in the 76th minute, however VAR adjudged that he was in an offside position while scoring, thus chalking off his efforts.
Despite overall having a solid performance throughout the match, Asnawi did have a slight blemish to his game in the dying minutes of the match, where he practically gifted Chiangrai their consolation goal. The former PSM Makassar defender attempted to clear away an attempt from Thanawat Pimoytha, however the ball ended up going back into the possession of the Chiangrai left-back, who easily passes it to Piyaphon Phanichakul. Phanichakul did not hesitate one bit and slotted home past Worawut Srisupha in the Port goal.
However, by then the game was far beyond Chiangrai’s reaches, as Port ran out comfortable 5-1 winners once the referee blew for full-time.
