Selangor FC emerged as the champion of the RCTI Premium Sports International Tournament after defeating Persija Jakarta 1-0 in Sunday’s final match at the Jakarta International Stadium.
Selangor started aggressively from the first minute, and their efforts quickly paid off in the 2nd minute when Alvin Fortes scored with a powerful header, breaking through Persija’s defense.
Persija, caught off guard by the early goal, tried to respond. However, the Macan Kemayoran, under the tutelage of development coach Ferdiansyah, struggled to penetrate the solid defense of their Liga Super Malaysia opponents.
Selangor had another golden opportunity in the 41st minute with a free kick executed by Yohandry Orozco. The game continued to be an intense affair, and Persija had a chance in the final minutes of the first half with a long-range shot by Resa Aditya that failed to find its target.
At halftime, Selangor led 1-0.
After the break, Persija played more aggressively to catch up. However, their attacks were too straightforward and were easily handled by the Selangor defense. The Macan Kemayoran continued to pressure the Red Giants’ defense, while Selangor relied on quick counterattacks. By the 70th minute, no additional goals had been scored. Selangor had a chance in the 80th minute with a shot by Orozco, which was saved by goalie Cahya Supriadi.
The match was halted in the 86th minute due to fans lighting flares, which significantly reduced visibility. Eventually, the referee decided to end the match due to the thick smoke enveloping the stadium.
As a result, Selangor claimed the RCTI Premium Sports International Tournament title with their slender win over Persija.
