Asnawi Mangkualam played the full match and managed to impress in the final game of the 2023/24 Thai League season on Sunday. The Indonesia national team defender provided the assist for one of Port FC’s goals in a huge 6-0 win over Nakhon Pathom United, as the Lions of Khlong Toei sealed third place in style at the PAT Stadium.
Asnawi started the match from the first minute, positioned as a right midfielder in a 3-4-3 formation.
Port took a 2-0 lead in the first half, with striker Felipe Amorim scoring both goals against Nakhon Pathom.
The home team remained unstoppable after the break, scoring four more goals in the second half.
Teerasak Poeiphimai matched Felipe’s achievement by netting a brace in the 60th and 78th minutes. The other two goals for Port were scored by Tanasith Siripala and Barros Tardeli.
Asnawi played a crucial role in Port FC’s fifth goal, which was scored by Siripala. The Indonesia national team captain sent a through ball that Siripala converted into a goal.
The match ended with a 6-0 victory for Port FC, marking their 16th win in the 2023/24 season for Rangsan Viwatchaichok’s men.
This victory ensured that Port finished in third place in the Thai League standings with 57 points. They trailed only Buriram United, the champions with 69 points, and True Bangkok United, the runners-up with 61 points. Qualification to AFC competitions for the 2024/25 season will be assured should Bangkok United win the 2023/24 Thai FA Cup or should second-tier side Dragon Pathumwan Kanchanaburi fail in their AFC licensing despite beating Bangkok United in June 1st’s final.
Since joining Port midway through the 2023/24 campaign, Asnawi played in 12 Thai League matches, recording 2 assists and contributing to 4 wins, 7 draws, and 1 loss for his team. He often deputized for Suphanan Bureerat, who practically made the right-back position his own even prior to Asnawi’s arrival.
