Indonesia national team head coach Shin Tae-yong have released a list of 29 players who are set to join the national team training camp which will be held in Turkey from December 20th until January 6th, with the camp aiming to prepare the Timnas Garuda for the upcoming 2023 AFC Asian Cup in Qatar on January 12th.
The list initially contained 30 players, however Persib Bandung’s Rachmat Irianto pulled out of national team duty with an injury, that caused him to miss his side’s 0-0 draw with Bali United on Monday.
With the Liga 1 Indonesia going on a lengthy pause from mid-December to late-January to accommodate the Asian Cup, players from the league were able to join up with foreign-based players at the seaside resort city of Antalya, where they will undergo a series of training sessions as well as friendly matches, among them against Libya on January 2nd and 5th.
The list contain the usual suspects – the likes of Ramadhan Sananta, Hokky Caraka, Witan Sulaeman, Marc Klok, Ricky Kambuaya, and Ernando Ari, as well as the much-maligned striker Dendy Sulistyawan. Tae-yong’s overseas-based regulars in Pratama Arhan, Asnawi Mangkualam, Elkan Baggott, Jordi Amat, and Saddil Ramdani were also called-up, so were Sandy Walsh, Shane Pattynama, Ivar Jenner, and Rafael Struick.
There were also several new names in the list, namely Marselino Ferdinan, the Sayuri twins Yakob and Yance, and newly-naturalized young defender Justin Hubner, while notable omissions include Stefano Lilipaly, Nadeo Argawinata, Andy Setyo, Alfreandra Dewangga, Hansamu Yama, and Syahrian Abimanyu.
Tae-yong will use the training camp to select and eliminate six players, thus shaping up Indonesia’s 23-men squad for the Asian Cup.
