Former Lyon, Swansea, Al-Hilal, and Galatasaray Striker Gomis Signs for Frontale

Kawasaki Frontale have just received a major boost for their attacking lineup with the arrival of French striker Bafetimbi Gomis from Turkish giants Galatasaray.

38-year old Gomis, famed for his “prowling lion” celebration, could also count the likes of French giants Lyon, Premier League side Swansea City, and Saudi behemoths Al-Hilal as his former clubs, winning the AFC Champions League with the latter twice in 2019 and 2021.

Despite being in his twilight years as a footballer, Gomis’ goalscoring prowess hasn’t waned one bit, scoring eight league goals for a Galatasaray side that won the Super Lig last season.

It is believed that Gomis was brought in to solve Kawasaki’s goalscoring issues, with the club only scoring 30 times in 22 games as they languish at 7th place in the J.League 1 table. Star striker Leandro Damiao, usually a reliable source of goals, has been sidelined with injury throughout most of the current campaign.

Gomis turned down offers from fellow Super Lig teams and teams down in the Turkish second tier in favor for a return to Asia with Kawasaki, with the Frenchman scheduled to join his new teammates in Japan within the next few weeks.
