Malaysia were rampant on Tuesday night’s friendly match against Papua New Guinea at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Kuala Terengganu, with the Harimau Malaya recording their biggest win yet by thrashing their hapless opponents 10-0.
PNG, who recorded a credible 2-2 draw away at Singapore in their previous outing last Friday, actually played well in the first half, with goalkeeper Ronald Warisan providing Malaysia with a tough challenge to crack.
But once Safawi Rasid opened the scoring with a penalty four minutes into the first half’s stoppage time following a foul within the area on Akhyar Rashid by Solomon Rani, all Hell broke loose for PNG.
Brazil-born midfielder Paulo Josue made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute, before four minutes later substitute Arif Aiman made it 3-0. Faisal Halim scored Malaysia’s fourth goal in the 58th minute, before Arif made it 5-0 in the 60th minute and Paulo made it 6-0 three minutes later.
Kuala Lumpur City FC man Paulo then completed his hat-trick to make it 7-0 Malaysia in the 69th minute, before Daniel Ting popped in Malaysia’s eighth of the night in the 76th minute.
As if PNG hasn’t suffered enough, Arif popped in with two more goals in the 87th and 88th minutes, completing his quad-trick and cementing Malaysia’s biggest-ever win.
