Former Italy international goalkeeper Walter Zenga is set to be named as Persita Tangerang’s new technical director in due time.
Zenga, who last worked as manager of Italian side Cagliari in 2020, has a wealth of experience managing different teams in Europe and the Middle East such as Red Star Belgrade, Palermo, Dinamo Bucharest, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Al-Ain and Al-Nassr. However, the former Inter Milan goalkeeper has been out of a job for the past few years, with the Persita gig his first since leaving Cagliari.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio first broke the news of Zenga’s appointment as Persita’s technical director on Sunday, with the appointment itself being done at the request of the new Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) chairman, Erick Thohir, who had once owned Inter.
“Former Italian legendary goalkeeper Walter Zenga will be the new Technical Director of Indonesian side Persita starting for July, 1st,” tweeted Di Marzio, “Indonesian Football Association President, Erick Thohir wanted him to join and bring his knowledge and experience to the league.”
Previously, Zenga and former Liverpool defender Abel Xavier paid Persita’s Indomilk Arena a visit on March 28th, to provide the Pendekar Cisadane with inputs on how to improve the club.
