The Indonesian football fraternity was shocked this Monday with news that reigning FIFA World Cup champions Argentina will take on the Indonesia national team in Jakarta on June 19th.
Indonesia were set to play two friendly matches in mid-June’s international break, with Palestine being confirmed as one of the Timnas Garuda‘s opponents in a match that will be played in Surabaya’s Gelora Bung Tomo on June 14th. The identity of Indonesia’s second opponent, however, remained a mystery with much speculation pointing towards Lionel Scaloni’s world champions as a potential opponent for Shin Tae-yong’s charges.
And finally, those speculations were confirmed by none other than the official social media handle of the Argentina national team themselves. La Albiceleste are scheduled to play two matches in Asia during the mid-June international break – against Australia in Beijing, China on June 15th and against Indonesia in Jakarta four days afterwards.
News of Indonesia’s upcoming friendly against Argentina was well-welcomed by practically everyone in the football-mad nation, who were all relishing the prospect of seeing the likes of Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martinez, and Alexis Mac Allister taking on the likes of Egy Maulana Vikri, Pratama Arhan, and Rizky Ridho.
Details regarding the friendly will be made known in due time, including whether the fixture will take place at the Gelora Bung Karno or the recently-opened Jakarta International Stadium.
