Marinos Score Five in Derby Day Demolition

Yokohama F. Marinos ran rampant in last Saturday’s Yokohama Derby as they demolished Yokohama FC 5-0 in their J.League 1 match at the Nissan Stadium.

Kevin Muscat’s men had their Brazilian stars to thank as braces from Anderson Lopes and Elber as well as a single Marcos Junior goal tore apart their newly-promoted city rivals, in a riveting performance inspired by Kota Mizunuma’s hard work in the midfield.

A goalless first half suggested that Yokohama FC had what it takes to square-up with their more illustrious neighbors, but two minutes into the second half Marcos managed to receive a short through pass from Anderson before making a mockery out of a poor Yokohama FC defense, luring goalkeeper Akinori Ichikawa out of his post and firing past the goalie for the game’s opening goal.

Yokohama then doubled their lead in the 62nd minute. Marcos managed to find Elber, who ran down the left wing to draw Akinori out, before proceeding to pass it short towards Anderson who finished things off with a tap-in.

Marinos did not stop their onslaught and six minutes later the hosts were 3-0 up, after Mizunuma had set-up Elber with a well-found cross. Another Mizunuma cross then found Elber in the 73rd minute that extended Yokohama’s lead, before the defending league champions finished their rout in the 90th minute thanks to Anderson’s header.

The result meant that Yokohama are fifth in the J1 table after last weekend’s matches, while a 1-0 win for Kashiwa Reysol over Kashima Antlers on Sunday meant that Yokohama FC are dead-last on the standings, being the only J1 team who has yet to win a game so far this season.
