JDT Clinch 9th Straight Liga Super Title with NS Demolition

Unstoppable Johor Darul Ta’zim have won the 2022 Liga Super Malaysia title after a comprehensive 5-0 win at home over 4th placers Negeri Sembilan FC. The Southern Tigers run riot and ripped the Jangs apart on the back of braces from Bergson and Arif Aiman as well as a Leandro Velazquez goal to win their ninth consecutive Liga Super trophy.

Playing in front of their faithful supporters at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, JDT went 1-0 up in the 35th minute thanks to Arif, before going 2-0 up only two minutes later through Leandro. The onslaught continued on to the second half after Arif completed his brace in the 48th minute to ensure a 3-0 lead for the hosts.

As if things couldn’t get bad to worse for Negeri Sembilan, Bergson exploded into life throughout the second half – making it 4-0 in the 60th minute before mercifully putting the Jangs out of their misery in the 88th minute, with the Brazilian scoring his 24th league goal of the season.

And JDT’s ninth consecutive Liga Super title was assured after surprise packages Sabah FC went down 2-0 away at Terengganu FC. This meant that the second placed Rhinos are ten points adrift of JDT with only three matches to go, ending Sabah’s unlikely charge for the title.

The Southern Tigers have already won the 2022 Malaysia FA Cup and with the Liga Super now bagged, JDT have their sights on yet another domestic treble as the 2022 Malaysia Cup rolls around at the end of the league season.
