Liga Super Malaysia side Sri Pahang FC are planning to axe three of their five foreign players for the 2022 campaign, as the halfway point of the season looms closer. The three foreigners were deemed not good enough for the team after a so-so first half of the season that saw Sri Pahang sat 8th in the 12-team Liga Super.
According to an article from Berita Harian, the Sri Pahang management have evaluated the team’s performance throughout the first half of the Liga Super season and decided that change has to be done to improve the team’s fortunes. The article stated that one of the reasons behind Sri Pahang’s stop-start performance was the disappointing performance of their foreign attackers, with head coach Christophe Gamel being given the priority to enhance the Tok Gajah‘s attacking options in the mid-season transfer window.
To this end, Sri Pahang had to let go of three out of their five foreign players, with Jordan international Mahmoud Za’tara, French defender Johan Martial, and French-Laotian striker Billy Ketkeophomphone being set to be shown the door to allow the new signings to join the Tok Gajah squad.
Both Argentinian midfielder Manuel Hidalgo and Mailan goalkeeper Mamadou Samassa are set to be safe from Sri Pahang’s mid-season cull.
However, for the time being, Sri Pahang have yet to release any official statement regarding the future of their five foreign players.
Underneath the tutelage of Gamel, Sri Pahang are currently 8th in the Liga Super table, with two wins, two draws, and four losses to their name after eight games.
