LS Matchweek 7 Recap: Red Eagles Recover to See Off Red Giants

The seventh matchweek of the 2021 Liga Super Malaysia season saw the return of fans into stadiums after a successful pilot project in Matchweek 6 and despite their limited numbers the fans were treated for a real footballing spectacle as all 12 Liga Super teams scored at least one goal in an action-packed Matchweek 7. The highlight of the matchweek saw a thrilling tie between Selangor FC and Kedah Darul Aman at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on Tuesday, with Kedah recovering from a goal down to send a quickfire double to condemn Selangor to a 2-1 defeat.

Having beaten Sri Pahang FC 3-1 in Matchweek 6, Kedah are on a 3-match winning streak and Aidil Shahrin Sahak’s men are eager to make it 4 wins out of 4 as they visit Selangor at the Petaling Jaya Stadium. The Red Eagles were stunned in the 33rd minute though as Oliver Buff managed to nutmeg Amirul Hisyam before beating Shahril Sa’ari from close range to ensure a 1-0 lead for Selangor.

Despite this setback, Kedah came back roaring in the second half and in the 79th minute they managed to get themselves the perfect opportunity to level things up after Tim Heubach had tripped Kpah Sherman inside the Selangor penalty box. Sherman took it upon himself to take the ensuing penalty and he executed his duty with perfection, slotting home past Khairulazhan Khalid who went the wrong way.

Six minutes later Kedah managed to complete the turnaround and it’s Sherman’s strike partner in Kipre Tchetche who hammered home the winning goal, sliding the ball past the legs of Sharul Nazeem before Khairulazhan was left beaten for the second time in the match.

With the advantage finally theirs Kedah managed to successfully clung onto their lead and finished the match as 2-1 victors, ensuring a fourth straight victory for the Red Eagles.

Earlier on Tuesday defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim traveled to the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu to take on Sabah FC and the Southern Tigers duly crushed their opponents 4-1, with Bergson bagging himself a brace and Sabah finishing the match with 10 men after Maxsius Musa was sent off in the second half for a foul on Natxo Insa.
