La Liga Returns With Barcelona and Real Madrid Wins

The Spanish La Liga resumed this weekend after an extended absence due to the outbreak of COVID-19. League leaders Barcelona got going straight from the restart with a 4-0 win over RCD Mallorca, while Real Madrid remained close behind with their 3-1 victory over Eibar.

Goals from Arturo Vidal, Martin Braithwaite, Jordi Alba, and Lionel Messi were enough to see Qique Setien’s men complete a rout of their hosts, giving them a temporary five-point lead over their title rivals.

However, Los Blancos returned from lockdown on the same excellent form, as Toni Kroos, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo found themselves on the scoresheet.

The weekend’s other big game saw sixth-placed Atletico Madrid travel to Bilbao to face Athletic Club. The side only managed a point on the road, further losing ground on the league leaders.
