Buriram Eye Renato Kelic as Tunez Replacement

Buriram United are reportedly eyeing up Croatian defender Renato Kelic as a potential replacement for departed captain Andres Tunez, according to this report from SiamSport.

The 29-year-old Croatian is currently on the books at Cebalia FC in his homeland’s second division. Kelic came through at the club’s academy and has recently rejoined from Romanian Liga 1 side CS Cracovia in February.

Standing at 192cm (6-foot-4), the defender will add considerable height to Buriram’s back-line, and may have a few more years at the peak of his powers compared to his predecessor.

This comes following Tunez’s departure from the club, citing his desire to return to Spain during the extended COVID-19 break.

However, with a long wait until the season restarts in September, it is highly likely that they will be reviewing other options in addition to Kelic before diving into the transfer market.

The side are also aware that they will have to replace Korean defensive midfielder Jeong Jae-Yong, who departed the club alongside Tunez last week. Questions also remain as to the fate of the side’s two remaining foreign players, Argentinian Bernardo Cuesta and Brazilian Ricardo Bueno.
