Vietnam were left precariously on the brink heading into the final round of the AFC U23 Championships group stage after playing out their second 0-0 draw of the tournament, this time with Jordan.

Park Hang-Seo’s side, which reached the finals of the tournaments last edition back in 2018, was expected to do impressive things at the Chang Arena in Buriram. However, having failed to score a goal after 180 minutes of football, things are looking worrisome heading into their final clash with North Korea.

Nothing less than a win will do for Vietnam on Thursday and will need to hope that Jordan and the UAE don’t draw in their game to avoid a potentially nerve-wracking tiebreaker scenario, which could come down to goal difference if things can’t be settled on the side’s head to head record.

Vietnam will need their relatively experienced campaigners, like Nguyen Quang Hai and Nguyen Tien Linh, to step up in the final game and end the side’s goal drought if they wish to keep their hopes of appearing at the 2020 Summer Olympics alive.
