Former Muangthong Defender Oh Ban-Suk Joins Jeonbuk

After spells in Thailand and the UAE, former South Korea international defender Oh Ban-Suk has returned to the K-League to join champions Jeonbuk ahead of the 2020 season.

Having spent most of his club career with Jeju United, the towering central defender made 198 appearances for the club between 2011 and 2018. His performances earned him 2 caps for the national team, both in 2018, and a place in the 2017 K-League team of the year.

The center-back was also an unused squad member in Shin Tae-Yong’s squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Ban-Suk moved from Jeju to Al Wasl in the UAE in 2018 and featured regularly during the first half of the domestic season in the Gulf League. However, the side let him go out on loan for the 2019 season, and he subsequently joined Thai League side Muangthong United.

One of the few bright spots in an up-and-down campaign for the Kirin, Ban-Suk missed most of the first half of the season through injury before coming back to make a big impression during the business end of the campaign.

However, with the four-time Thai League champions unwilling to pay his buyout clause, the defender was free to return to his homeland. His arrival show add more depth to Jeonbuk’s squad ahead of yet another title defense and AFC Champions League campaign in 2020.
