Korea women’s national football team sought to clinch its second title at the 2019 EAFF E-1 Football Championship but it was all in vain as they concede a late penalty to Yuka Momiki.
The tournament that was held in Busan from last Tuesday was the first competition for manager Colin Bell who took charge from this October. Eyes were set on the 58-year-old manager for his unique background in both men and women’s teams.
During the tournament, the Taegeuk Ladies defeated Chinese Taipei, drew against China and lost to Japan in the last fixture.
Hyundai Steel Red Angels WFC forward, Kang Chae-lim rang the bell of success for the manager by netting two goals that secured a crucial win against the Chinese Taipei.
After the tournament, Bell said: “I am disappointed by the result but the energy and ability that the players have proven did not disappoint me. Players were as energetic as any other games and moved according to the tactics.
“Any player who suits the team’s style of play has the chance to be chosen. As we have noticed from this tournament, many more young players are capable to join us. In January, two to three players aged under 19 will be called up to be observed.”
The 2019 EAFF E-1 runner-up will now prepare for the Olympic qualifying stage in February.
