The Women’s Football tournament at the 2019 SEA Games will reach its conclusion today after the semi-final finished on Thursday afternoon. The hosts Philippines met Group B champions and recent gold medalist, Vietnam, while Thailand, who were the runners up in the last edition, faced Myanmar.

A rematch of the Women’s Football will be held at the Rizal Memorial stadium later today as Vietnam and Thailand go to the final while hosts Philippines and Myanmar battle for Bronze.

Myanmar managed to frustrate Chaba Kaew as Narupol Kaenson’s side had to wait until the 78th minute to find a winning goal, courtesy of 24-year-old midfielder Orapin Waenngoen, who debuted in the last AFF Women’s Championship.

Meanwhile, the host’s journey finally came to an end at the hands of Vietnam’s. The Golden Girls need to wait after a goalless first half until Thai Thi Thao opened the score in 60th minutes and Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung doubled it six minutes before the game ended. Tuyet Dung joins the ranks of the tournaments’ top scorers with three other players Yee Yee O (Myanmar), Sarina Bolden (Philippines) and Kanyanat Chetthabutr (Thailand)

This is will be the third meeting for Thailand and Vietnam in the final after the debut of Women’s Football held in SEA Games back in 2013. Last time in Kuala Lumpur The Golden Girls earn a gold medal with a single group format and just five competing nations.

Mai Duc Chung’s side collected 10 points, along with Thailand, who stood below them and earned the silver medal despite having a better goal difference. Thailand won the first Women’s Football in 2013, making these a battle of the region’s two most established sides.

Unlike in the Men’s Football tournament, the Women’s Football in SEA Games is played amongst senior team players, so the tension between two of them will be bigger. The battle will great, and the two strikers who leading the top scorer’s list will give a hundred percent to score as much as they can not only for the country but also for their personal ambitions. Thailand had an advantage, the pressure isn’t on their shoulder as they try to claim the throne from Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the battle is on for the bronze medal match between Myanmar and the Philippines. Like Vietnam and Thailand, both of them already met in the group stage, and their game ended goalless too. The Malditas will be looking for an additional prize in front of their supporters.

Meanwhile, Myanmar are clearly the most improved team in recent years. They may not compete at a continental level like Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines did in AFC Asian Women’s Cup back in 2018, but in the last SEA Games, they became the best-attacking team as they scored 14 goals and Win Theingi Tun closed the competition as the top scorer with 6 goals. It will be tough for both sides, both in the final and bronze medal match.
