Zenit Saint Petersburg’s Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun has scored 2019-20 UEFA Champions League’s first goal in 1-1 draw against Lyon.
Zenit have started the campaign with an away match against Lyon and Azmoun who had been under pressure for his disappointing performances in recent weeks, has bundled home in 41st minute. So he registered his name as the first goal scorer of UEFA Champions league’s new season.
However, Memphis Depay scored the leveler from the spot 5 minutes into the second half and Zenit have secured just one point in match week 1.
“It’s a privilege for me to score Champions league first goal. It gives me extra motivation for the next matches and I also know have to take more responsibility.” Azmoun said to reporters.
Zenit who sit at the top of the Russia Premier league will host Portuguese Benfica in match day 2 .
