Thailand national team head coach Milovan Rajevac has been released from his position following a shocking 4-1 defeat at the hands of India during the opening game of the 2019 AFC Asia Cup.
His sacking was confirmed by this statement from Thai FA President Somyot Poompanmuang, provided by Football Tribe Thailand, just hours after his nation’s heavy defeat against the Blue Lions.
In his absence, assistant coach Sirisak Yodyardthai will take charge of the squad for the remainder of the tournament. Having worked as an assistant under Rajevac for the entirety of his tenure, Sirisak’s only prior experience as a head coach came from his time at Thai Honda Ladkrabang FC, who he guided to the nation’s top division.
The side now have a mountain to climb if they are to qualify for the knockout stages. Their next game will take place on Thursday, December 10th as the War Elephants face Bahrain in Matchday 2.
