Malaysia Cup Group Stage Reaches Pulsating Conclusion

The group stage of the Malaysia Cup has reached its final round, with two of the eight knockout-stage places still up for grabs. Both of the remaining slots are from Group C, which remains wide open as any of the teams can qualify.

Malaysian Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim face the prospect of a shocking early elimination from the tournament. The side has been a victim of their own success, as many crucial players were missing due to national team commitments during the Asian Games. Despite scrambling to recover, the side must win their match away to the Malaysian-Indian Football Association (MIFA) to maintain any chance of progressing.

The qualified teams from Group A (Terengganu and Perak) and Group B (Felda United and PKNS) all sit on ten points, and will fight for top spot in their respective groups.

Elsewhere in South-East Asia, newly crowned Vietnamese Champions Hanoi FC travel to second-placed Sanna Khanh Hoa. Despite the title already being decided, the hosts will be looking for three points in order to maintain their hopes of qualifying for the AFC Cup.
