Italian striker Massimo Maccarone will leave Brisbane Roar after just one season at the club. The former Italy international striker scored 10 goals and registered six assists in 30 matches in all competition this season.
However, it is revealed that he is not on manager John Aloisi’s plan for the next season as the former Melbourne Heart manager aims to revamp the squad for the 2018-19 campaign.
“I would have liked to play another season but I understand the decision. When you stay at a place you like for a year, it’s normal that you don’t like having to leave,” Maccarone told The Courrier-Mail.
“But I’m OK. I understand the choice for the club, and I want to say thank you to everybody at the club, the staff, the players, the fans, because it was a good experience for me here in Australia,” he added.
At the moment, it is unknown whether the 38-year-old striker would hang-up his boots or continue to play for another club.
