ANALYSIS: Three keywords to summarise a match between Northern Ireland and South Korea

3. Meaningless

Korea was dominating the game. Korea possessed the ball 65% of the time, and recorded 13 attempts, nine more than Norther Ireland. However, finishing was very poor; attempts on target were three for both teams, showing how inaccurate it was.

Set piece comes in handy in such case where the opponent “park the bus,” but Korea’s nine chances from the corner made little impact.

In the end, the result is decided by who scored more; all the attempts and ball possession were rather meaningless.
