The Iranian national Futsal team won the AFC Championship title for the 12th time on Sunday.
In the final match against Japan at Taipei’s Xinzhuang Gymnasium, Team Melli beat Samurai Blue 4-0.
Just before halftime, Iran finally took the lead as Captain Ali Asghar Hassanzadeh break the deadlock with a decent shot from a tight angle.
Two minutes into the second half, Farhard Tavakoli made it 2-0 as after a fine one-two with Mehdi Javid, his great strike past Japanese goalie Higor Pires.
Hassanzadeh doubled his tally on the half-hour mark with a clinical right-footed finish and Iran almost sealed the victory.
Japan turned to the 0-5 formation to compensate the deficit but Iran’s Hossein Tayebi scored in the final minute when he stroked a shot from inside his own half into the unguarded net.
Earlier in the day, Uzbekistan clinched third place after defeating Iraq 2-1 on penalties after both sides had played out a 4-4 draw.
