Australia coach Bert van Marwijk: We must do everything to survive the first round of 2018 World Cup

Newly-appointed Australia coach Bert van Marwijk has a high hope that his side will enter the knock-out stage of 2018 World Cup.

Van Marwijk says he plans to bring his own style of football to Australia’s national team.

Speaking with SBS News, van Marwijk said he would bring his own style of football to the Socceroos.

“I like to have the ball, I like to play a good position game, I like to play attractive (football), with a lot of creativity, but I also like to win. That’s the most important thing – to win.”

On the other hand, the Dutchman targeted taking Australia to the second round of Russia’s World Cup.

“We must do everything to survive the first round… I will nominate players who I think I can have the best result (with). A team needs weapons,” he added.

“My experience with Holland in 2010 was that we had good players but didn’t have the best players, but at the end, we had the best team and that’s also what I’ll try to do with Australia.”
