Cerezo Osaka crowned the Emperor’s Cup champions

Cerezo Osaka were crowned the Emperor’s Cup champions following the 2-1 extra-time win over Yokohama F. Marinos in the final on Monday.

Sho Ito took the lead for Marinos 8 minutes into the match, however the team lost some of their attacking strength when midfielder Ryosuke Yamanaka was replaced due to injury at the end of the first half.

Taking advantage of the opportunities, Cerezo were leveled off in the 65th minute with a goal from Kazuya Yamamura.

Since neither side was able to find the net in the remaining 25 minutes, the final then went into extra-time.

Cerezo secured the win when Kota Mizunuma struck the winner in the 95th minute thanks to a goalkeeping error by Hiroki Iikura.

This victory secures coach Yoon Jong-hwan’s side a place in this year’s AFC Champions League.
