Vitor Pereira named as new coach of Shanghai SIPG

Former Porto coach Vitor Pereira has been named as the new coach of Shanghai SIPG.

The Chinese Super League side announced their new coach at a presentation held on Monday.

“Shanghai SIPG are delighted to announce Vitor Pereira as the club’s new head coach,” read Shanghai SIPG statement, as quoted by Bein Sport.

“Pereira is renowned for having an eye for developing young players, which is tallied with our club’s high regard for youth development.”

Pereira has replaced fellow Portuguese Andre Villas-Boas, who stepped down at the end of the season to pursue his Dakar Rally career.

The 49-year-old worked as Villas-Boas’ assistant when Porto won the Europa League title in 2011, before taking over as head coach when the latter moved to Chelsea.
