Tim Cahill could miss Honduras play-off following ankle injury

Australia veteran Tim Cahill may miss the World Cup qualifiers against Honduras following his ankle injury in Melbourne City’s 1-0 defeat by Sydney FC on Friday.

Cahill limped off the field early after hurting his ankle in a clash with Sydney FC defender Jordi Buijs. The Melbourne City marquee player had to be substituted just 25 minutes into the game.

As reported by The Sydney Morning Herald, an FFA statement on Saturday said Cahill has X-rays on Friday and an MRI scan on Saturday “to determine the full extent of the injury”.

“While no fracture was identified, monitoring and rehabilitation will be required to manage Cahill back to full fitness,” the statement read.

The Socceroos are due to fly to Honduras on the weekend ahead of the first leg of the World Cup play-off on 10 November.
