Thai League T1 cut down to 16 teams in 2019

The 209 Thai League 1 will be cut down from 18 to 16 teams, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) announced in a meeting on Tuesday.

This means that five teams will be relegated to the second tier at the conclusion of next year’s league battles.

The FAT expects that the downsizing scale of the top-flight league will allow players in the national teams fully recover for the important international competitions.

At the moment, all Thai League 1 sides are required to play 34 matches in one season. On the other hand, the players have to compete in other major knock-out tournaments, including the FA Cup and the League Cup.
