Shanghai Shenhua chairman admits Carlos Tevez “fail to meet expectations”

Shanghai Shenhua chairman Wu Xiaohui admitted that superstar Carlos Tevez has failed to meet expectations at the club.

“Our intention was to bring in an influential star player with high quality, and we all think Tevez could fit the bill,” Wu told Shanghai TV, as quoted by Daily Mail.

“However, due to a lack of winter training and match fitness, he didn’t meet our expectations.”

Tevez has scored three goals in 13 Chinese Super League matches since signing a reported annual salary of $41 million, which has made him one of the world’s highest-paid football players.

The Argentine has only recently returned to action following a calf injury, with Shenhua losing all four of their league fixtures so far this season.
