Shanghai Shenhua coach compares his team with Manchester United after embarrassing derby defeat

Carlos Tevez climbed off the bench to score just his third Chinese Super League goal but could not save Shanghai Shenhua from being thrashed 6-1 at Shanghai SIPG.

After the disastrous defeat, Shenhua’s new coach Wu Jingui compared his demoralized club to Manchester United.

“Just like when Manchester City began rising, Manchester United went through a difficult time as well,” Wu said, as quoted by AFP.

“Shenhua are a club with a history and after reflection and some transition, I believe we will come again, just like the current Manchester United team.”

Wu added on Tevez, whom he had branded “overweight”.

“Moreno told me at halftime that he was tired and suffered an injury to his thigh.

“I can’t take a chance on him. We will play another important game in three days, so he was replaced by Tevez.”

Shenhua’s fifth CSL loss on the bounce left them sinking to the 12th position in the standings.
