Shanghai Shenhua deny approach for ex-Barcelona boss Luis Enrique

Shanghai Shenhua have denied they have approached former Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique about appointing him as a replacement for Gus Poyet.

Poyet, 49, made the decision after a 2-1 loss to Henan Jianye on Sunday left Shanghai Shenhua 12th in the 16-team Chinese Super League.

According to Goal China, some reports in Spain claimed that Shanghai Shenhua have declared an interest to sign Luis Enrique.

However, the same source revealed that the three-time CSL runners-up have not contacted the ex-Barcelona boss or any other manager.

Technical director of the club Wu Jingui has been appointed as the new coach immediately after Poyet’s departure on Monday.
