Former Arsenal midfielder Jose Antonio Reyes has been close to moving to Chinese Super League side’s Shanghai Shenhua, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The former Spain international became the free agent following the expiration of his contract with Espanyol in June.
He will play alongside Carlos Tevez, Demba Ba and Obafemi Martins at Shanghai Shenhua, where former Betis coach Gus Poyet is in charge.
It will be Reyes’ third abroad experience after representing the likes of Arsenal (2004-2006) and Benfica (2008-2009).
The arrival of the veteran Spaniard to Shanghai Shenhua, who are stumbling to 11th position in the Chinese Super League table, could lead to the departure of Tevez in the coming weeks.
The former Manchester United striker arrived in China late 2016 from Boca Juniors and becomes the highest paid player in the world.
