Australia captain Mark Milligan praises Thailand’s resilience following the Socceroos’ victory in the last third round 2018 World Cup qualification.
“We got at them. It was a little bit disappointing [about] their goal on the counter-attack, but overall we got ourselves into good scoring positions,” Australia skipper Mark Milligan said, as quoted by the Bangkok Post.
“I don’t know how many times we hit the post. We gave it everything we had tonight. Credit to Thailand, they hung firmly on their 18-yard box for a long time.”
Australia’s World Cup nightmare has come true despite gaining a 2-1 victory over Thailand in Melbourne. Saudi Arabia’s 1-0 victory against Japan on the same night denied the Socceroos direct qualification and forced them down the intercontinental play-off route.
