Werder Bremen have confirmed that Zhang Yuning already left the team to take a part in the 13th Chinese National Games this month.
The 20-year-old striker will play for his hometown team Zhejiang in the U-20 football competition which will be held in Tianjin.
His province have made it to the semi-final of the national tournament for the first time in their history and have a chance to play in the final game on Thursday.
“We let him go back to China as we know it’s an important event within his home country,” Werder’s sporting director, Frank Baumann told the club’s official site.
Zhang previously has been called up to the China national team for the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
But, the youngster who plays for the German Bundesliga side on loan from West Bromwich Albion didn’t show up for the required deadline of the team which made head coach Marcello Lippi to drop him.
