20-year-old striker Worachit Kanitsribumphen spared Thailand U-22’s blushes against minnows Timor Leste as he fired the Young War Elephants to their first victory in SEA Games 2017 men’s football.
The Chonburi footballer nodded in his second goal for Thailand U-22 in the 58th minute and spared the blushes of his team-mates at the Selayang Stadium on Thursday.
After a rather lacklustre performance in the first half, Thailand finally opened the score through Worachit, before missing several clear-cut chances, including a glaring miss from substitute Chenrop Samphaodi.
The victory gave Thailand four points from two matches, but they remain behind Vietnam and Indonesia on the group B table. The Young Golden Stars continued their impressive start to the tournament as they recorded a 4-1 victory over Cambodia.
Meanwhile, Indonesia stayed in the second place after a comfortable 3-0 victory against the Philippines.
