Nguyen Cong Phuong, Doan Van Hau give Vietnam U-22 dream start against Timor Leste

Two goals from 19-year-old defender Doan Van Hau helped Vietnam defeat Timor Leste 4-0 in their opening match at the 29th SEA Games.

It took The Young Golden Stars just 8 minutes to open the score when Nguyen Cong Phuong’s corner brought troubles for Timor-Leste in the penalty area, allowing Hau to hit home from a close range.

Twelve minutes later, the Hanoi T&T defender turned provider when his cross found Ha Duc Chinh at the penalty area to double their tally.

Timor Leste came close to scoring when Henrique Wilson released a fierce shot on target, but Vietnamese goalkeeper Phi Minh Long was quick to parry it away.

Doan Van Hau doubled his tally four minutes before the break when he drove a powerful shot beyond Timor Leste’s goalkeeper’s reach.

Vietnam’s star player Nguyen Cong Phuong added gloss to the scoreline by scoring in the second half, leaving their supporters cheered by the sight of a dominant display.
