Despite being drawn in the so-called “Group of Death” with title favorites Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia, Cambodia U22 head coach Leonardo Vitorino has been confident about the chance of winning the gold medal at SEA Games 2017 in Malaysia.
“Cambodia have been very well prepared and we have taken training sessions in Japan, China, and the Philippines. Our target is nothing but a gold medal. My young players will do their best to make history,” the Brazilian coach said during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, as quoted by Zing.vn.
Meanwhile, both Cambodia’s group rivals Thailand and Vietnam have arrived with the same targets, being crown with the title at the regional football competition.
The Cambodia squad has undergone training sessions ahead of their opening Group B match against the Philippines at the MP Selayang Stadium on August 15.
The Vitorino’s side are due to play Vietnam on August 17, Thailand on August 20, Timor Leste on August 22 and Indonesia on August 24.
