Six Malaysia U-22 footballers to miss AFC U-23 Championship qualifiers

U-22 Malaysia national team are preparing for the AFC U-23 Championship qualifiers in Bangkok next week, in which they are in the same group with Indonesia, Thailand, and Mongolia

However, their campaign may face an uphill battle since six players failed to report for national duty.

The six players he is referring to are Matthew Davies and Nor Azam Azih from Pahang, S. Kumaahran and Syamer Kutty Abba from Penang, and Haziq Nadzli and Safawi Rasid from Johor Darul Ta’zim.

As a consequence, the Malaysian coach was forced to make some new call-ups to replace the missing stars.

In a press conference, Kim Swee admitted that his team would fly to Bangkok without the six players since he had not heard from them.

“I still haven’t heard from them, so it looks like we have to soldier on without the six players. I would really like to have them onboard because they are good, but right now I have to focus on the players I already have.” the coach said, as quoted by Stadium MY.

Malaysia will play the first game in the Group H against Indonesia on 19 July.
