Al-Gharafa SC striker Johnson Kendrick Feliciano da Costa was killed on Friday during an attempted assault in Guarujá, a city off the coast of São Paulo, Brazil.
At the age of 25, Kendrick spent a season so far at the top tier Qatar Stars League. He was shot in the face after a robbery attempt while on holiday in his native country on 7 July.
According to reports from Brazil, the Brazilian striker was due to return to Qatar the following day. Since then, those responsible for the crime have not been identified and no one has been arrested.
Kendrick was born in Brazil and had lived in the Middle East for seven years.
He went to Turkey and played at Muaither Sports Club in the Qatari second division before joining Al-Gharafa in 2016, where he excelled and helped put the team in the top flight.
