Former Malaysia and Vietnam national team head coach Karl-Heinz Weigang has died at the age of 81, according to reports in Malaysia.
The German coach passed away in his home country after suffering a heart attack, Perak FA deputy president Shahrul Zaman Yahya said.
Weigang was perhaps best-known in Malaysia for guiding the national team to the 1980 Olympics Games. However, Malaysia boycotted the multi-sport event altogether.
He also had a two-year spell with Vietnam, where he guided the Golden Stars to the final of the men’s football event at the 18th SEA Games.
Weigang was appointed by the Perak FA as head coach to oversee a three-year development plan for the state, but his time with the state ended in February 2017.
