Japan – Qualified to the Round of 16
After a ten-year hiatus, Japan returned to the U-20 World Cup with a 2-1 win against South Africa.
The 2-0 defeat against top dog Uruguay didn’t hold back the young Blue Samurais, as they fought back from behind to claim a draw against Italy.
Ritsu Doan is inarguably the best player of Japan in the tournament so far, netting four goals in just three matches, including the two goals against Italy in the final match day.
Japan U-20 finished third in Group D and will face Group B winner Venezuela in Round of 16. The match will take place on Tuesday, 30 May.
