Japan finished third in Group D, behind Italy on goal difference but their record ensures they will progress to Last 16 as one of the four best third-placed nations.

In the 50th minute, Japan got the crucial equalizer after Ritsu Doan grabs his second goal of the match. The impressive 18-year-old dribbled past three defenders to score his fourth goal of the tournament from close range. He dedicated his sublime second to Koki Ogawa.
